Founded in 1915, Commercial Metals Company (CMC) is a global leader in sustainable recycling, manufacturing and fabrication of steel and metal products and related materials and services. CMC Steel Arizona was the first state-of-the-art micro mill in the world. Our scrap-based Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) steelmaking processes consume fewer natural resources, use less energy and release fewer emissions than alternative blast furnace steelmaking technology. The steel produced at CMC’s mills is comprised of more than 98% recycled material.

We recently announced construction of our third EAF micro mill, right here in Mesa! “Arizona 2” is a state-of-the-art EAF micro mill and will be the first of its kind in the world. This mill will be able to produce both reinforcing steel (rebar) and merchant bar (channels, angles, flats, rounds and squares) using our highly energy-efficient continuous casting process, and will be the first steel plant in North America with direct-connect potential to renewable energy sources.
